It's clear that the year is winding down, because the weather is gorgeous, everything is due, fun things are scheduled, and everyone is going crazy (perhaps as a result of the lethal combination of the first three).
Fun things I have done recently:
1) Global Groove Night-- This was awesome for multiple reasons. First of all, it was prefaced by a three-hour almost uninterrupted name that tune/sing-along party with SoccerRoommate and Roommate J. The high point was the spontaneous rendition of the old favorite "I'll Make a Man Out of You" from Mulan, complete with impromptu interpretive dance. We also began speaking in accents while getting dressed (Roommate J got to wear her much advertised "clubbing top"), and found them mighty hard to shake. Secondly, SoccerRoommate actually went with us. It was so much fun to hang out with her, and we had the added bonus of her knowing to which venue we were actually going. The dancing was really fun, and we got free tote bags. The DJ was so-so, as was the rest of the company, but we were joined by DownstairsChatterer, so for the most part the four of us just broke it down in the middle of the dance floor.
All told, our song-and-dance party lasted six hours.
2) The History Boys Discussion-- This occurred, unsurprisingly, in Freshman "I AM the Humanities" Seminar. It was interesting comparing what we discussed in class after reading the script with what Mom, Dad, and I discussed in London after seeing the stage performance, and then again after seeing the movie with its changed ending.
I think everyone should watch or, best of all, read The History Boys. Not only is it amazingly well written and well acted, it brings up questions about the definition of a successful life, the value of education, and the effectiveness of authority. Not to mention great accents and hormonal teenage boys, which I count as an added bonus.
3) Course Selection-- This is ongoing, but I met with my adviser and have some idea of the classes I'll be taking next semester. When I know for sure on Friday, I'll let you know.
4) BrandeisGirl's Visit-- This was largely impromptu. My friend from high school (now at Brandeis, duh) came down on Sunday and stayed over until Monday morning. We had a great time chatting, walking around Princeton, and eating ice cream. Also she accompanied DownstairsChatterer, RussianRoommate, and I on an adventure into our rooms for next year. Only my portion was successful (and it looks awesome). No one else was in their room.
5) Bike Ride to the Tow Path-- I just got back from this one. The air smells amazing, especially among the flowering trees and the trees with leaves already coming in. I rode around and then sat and read by the canal for about an hour before coming back. It was all very calming, as will be, I foresee, the shower I am about to take.
