This was the beginning of a lot of things: my Dickens reading (the result of a correspondence with Joan Aiken, the author, who told me my favorite character was based on a Dickens character but wouldn't tell me which one), my own interest in writing, puberty (suddenly the lead male character was interesting for a lot of reasons)...
