I had an excellent weekend, and so instead of confronting the masses of homework I have yet to do, due to said excellent weekend, I thought I would write it all down.
HarvardGirl came down to visit for her spring break and we had a great time. She arrived on Friday at noon and I gave her an expanded and obviously more informal tour of campus (less history, more Nom de Plume hangouts) before grabbing a drink in Panera and coming back to the dorm room to relax and look at friends' photos on Facebook. I had a "We Published F. Scott" meeting at six, so I placed HarvardGirl in the campus center and went to it and managed to duck out right at the end before they discussed where my story I submitted fit on the "Maybe" list. (The subsequent final Maybe and Yes lists were sent out later, and mine was second from top of the Maybes, so keep your fingers crossed, people). We then went to dinner at my favorite student-budget restaurant, and Indian place, with HSClassmate and...ummm...I don't remember what nickname I gave him before, but let's go with MaleOrganist (he went to our high school, plays the organ, and goes to a college down the road). It was great to have a mini-reunion and we went on to grab ice cream at one of the two places competing for the Best Ice Cream award. HarvardGirl and I went to see The Counterfeiters afterwards. Great film, and happily worthy of the Oscar it got.
We woke up on Saturday and took the train up to New York to see a matinée. Unfortunately the Avenue Q tickets we had set our hearts on were a little on the pricey side, so we decided to see Passing Strange instead. It was...passing strange. But good, we decided. The concept and staging won out over the music, and the guy named Stew who wrote everything and had the lead and who stood in the middle of the stage for the entire thing got a little annoying, but the supporting cast was excellent, and included a Harvard grad/playwright.
Before the show we stopped in at Amy's Bread for some snacks, and after we hurried on back to Princeton to be back in time for dinner.
RussianRoommate had the idea to go to a t-shirt painting party held by the on-campus free and literally underground coffee shop, so Roommate J, HarvardGirl and I joined her and it was great. HarvardGirl and I made matching cryptic t-shirts (the front and back refer to inside jokes).
Then we headed back to get to bed by midnight because in order to get her New York train on time HarvardGirl had to catch the 6:27 out of Princeton. I set the alarm for 5:40 and we set off to grab pastries for her journey (the French bakery opens at six). It was still pitch black and we only saw one person besides the bakery ladies between the dorm and the train station. I dropped her off and slogged back to the dorm just as the sun started to come up.
Luckily I managed to get to sleep again, and to stay asleep until 10:00. The quality of my upcoming homework thanks me.
