Day Five in Gangland
The day of the carnival dawned very hot, and we rolled out of bed on six (me, and still not enough) or fewer hours of sleep.
We set up the games and then retired to do more staple removal, which was beginning to grow on us. It was like a knitting circle, but with more pain and goodwill.
The carnival was great, except for the fact that me and another girl, still basking in the afterglow of handing out the backpacks, volunteered to hand out the prizes as well. While thirty people "in line" waited for six little kids to choose their prizes at the top of their lungs, we wondered if this was a good idea. In the end we certainly felt deserving of the pizza that the church provided for us and ate four pieces each, which we needed to fuel us for the evening ahead.
Everyone went bowling. Now, I haven't bowled much, and certainly not since prom, but I'm fairly good (I shamefacedly bowled 131 at prom, beating HarvardGirl's 30 and her date's 45) and got 100. Still, this had to be the low point of the week. Everyone was tired, no one was having fun, and the fact that all the other CA groups were wild and full of energy just made it even worse.
Still, once we returned to the church we managed to stay up even later. Grr.
