This past week has been incredibly slow at work. BossLady went on vacation and left Intern T, Intern S, and I each a list of things to get done. I was done with my list on Tuesday. The rest of the week was spent helping out the education department and reading plays that live in the Library and rest tantalizingly close to my desk, by my ear.
Yesterday was not the best day, all told. I sealed envelopes for two hours and then walked home and after checking the car for something Dad was looking for, promptly shut and locked the door with my keys inside. Following the wise advice of the Ps, I called AAA and they sent a locksmith to help me. He came on time, but spent the entire time staring at me. He shoved the coat-hanger-y thing down the window while staring at me, opened the door while staring at me, and handed me my keys while staring at me. It was very weird and uncomfortable, and our conversation, while excellent future story fodder, was even stranger:
Him: (seeing my license plate) Are you on vacation or do you live here?
Me: I work here. I have a summer internship.
Him: That's cool.
Me: It's a little too hot here for my taste.
Him: It's like deer.
Me: What?
Him: It's like deer. Their blood gets thicker up north. I bet you could get heat stroke in ten minutes easy.
Me: You're...probably right.
Him: Here you go. (hands me the keys)
Me: Thanks.
Him: (very suggestive) You have a nice day.
Me: You too. (scurries back inside)
Last night I watched the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics and got excited about the US team's outfits, Sergei Bubka, and the fact that the last opening ceremony I watched was in a motel in Nebraska on the way to (or back from?) The Cabin.
Tonight we're having a games night get-together for the last Saturday that Flatmate H and I will be in town. Intern T's boyfriend is visiting, so we'll get to meet him before they go gallivanting off to their evening plans.
This week will be strange. I can already tell. After I wrap up one major project on Monday (I was going to do it today, but the place I was supposed to get photos from was closed), I'll probably be given day-to-day office work until I leave for Colorado a week from today.
